3/4x + 1/4 = 1/4x
HELP! Thanx
Hello!
Here is what I get:
$\displaystyle \frac{3}{4}x + \frac{1}{4} = \frac{1}{4}x$
$\displaystyle \frac{1}{4} = \frac{1}{4}x - \frac{3}{4}x$
*factor out the x
$\displaystyle \frac{1}{4} = x(\frac{1}{4} - \frac{3}{4})$
*add your fractions
$\displaystyle \frac{1}{4} = x(-\frac{1}{2})$
$\displaystyle x = \frac{\frac{1}{4}}{-\frac{1}{2}}$
*multiply the top by the reciprocal of the bottom
$\displaystyle x = \frac{1}{4} \cdot -\frac{2}{1} = -\frac{1}{2}$
