Thread: solving quadratic equations

Hey guys, i have one more question for anyone who can solve it.

A framer at a photo gallery wants to frame a print with a matte of uniform width all around the print. To make it pleasing to the eye, the area of the matte should equal the area of the print. if the print measures 40cm by 60cm, how wide should the matte be?


This really is quite urgent, i need to know this, i have an exam on it tomorrow

let x = width of the border

(40+2x)(60+2x) - (40)(60) = (40)(60)

solve for x
