See if you can follow the example here: Tips on factoring, a not equal to 1

The process is exactly the same for any quadratic.

    x^2-6x-16=0

(x-8)(x+2) you can check by foiling

    x^2+2x-8x-16=x^2-6x-16

    x-8=0 and x+2=0

x=8 and x=-2 is the solution
