Thread: Simultaneous Equations Help

Could someone please show me how to do this sum using simultaneous Equations, step by step so I could use it as an example to work out similar sums?

In four years time a mother will be three times as old as her son. Four years ago she was five times as old as her son. Find their present ages.

Thanks, I know how to work the simultaneous equations out but I need to know how to construct the simultaneous equation for these kind of sums.

x = age of mother now
y = age of son now
x+4 = age of mother in four years
y+4 = age of son in four years
etc.
