# Math Help - Indices Help, Please

Hi there. So I'm really unsure about questions such as the following and have no clue how to do them.

Okay the question is to
Solve the following equation:
$7^x = 1/49$

Thanks in advance, I have no clue how to do these.

My first question type is to simplify the following, and giving the answer in index form:
3/a x /a
(cube root of a) x (square root of a)

(I apologize for not using the math notation, but I'm not sure how to do cube root and square root)

My second type is to Solve the following equations:
$7^x = 1/49$

Thanks in advance, I have no clue how to do these.
(1) $\sqrt[3]{a} \cdot \sqrt{a}$

$=a^{\frac{1}{3}} \cdot a^{\frac{1}{2}}$

try using the laws of exponents to simplify .

(2) $7^x = 7^{-2}$

(i) Re-write as $a^{\frac{1}{3}} \times a^{\frac{1}{2}}$ and simplify

(ii) Hint: $\frac{1}{49} = \frac{1}{7^2} = 7^{-2}$

4. Thanks, I get them now.
