    Algebra Story Problem

Two rainstorms occurred in one week in a certain area. The first storm lasted hours, and the second storm lasted hours, for a total of rain. What was the rate of rainfall for each of the two storms if the sum of the two rates was per hour?

let r = rate of rainfall for the first storm in mL/hr

65 - r = rate of rainfall for the second storm in mL/hr

    30r + 20(65 - r) = 1700

solve for r, then determine the value of (65 - r)

I am still confused with this one, how do I figure out what "r" is?
