1. ## simplify expressions

Hello im new to this forum which looks like its going to be a great help with my maths course.
Ok the problem i have is im not sure how i even start to simplify this fraction expression 12-2p/3 - p/3

Could some point me in the right direction of where i need to start and explain any steps that may make it easier to understand.

Thanks

Sorry for not using laTex i will learn it in future.

2. Begin by finding the least common denominator and converting all the components into fractions with this denominator. Then you may find the sum of the entire problem. Finally, simplify the remaining fraction as you would any other fraction by dividing out common multiples from the numerator and denominator.

$\displaystyle 12-\frac{2p}{3}-\frac{p}{3}$

$\displaystyle =\frac{36}{3}-\frac{2p}{3}-\frac{p}{3}$

$\displaystyle =\frac{36-3p}{3}$

$\displaystyle =\frac{3(12-p)}{3}$

can u continue from here ?

4. Thanks for the reply i now managed to simplify the expression i have to say what a helpful forum im glad i joined.
also thanks for the quick response
