some vocabulary:

"percent" means "out of 100", or "over 100"

"is" means "equals"

"of" in math usually means "multiply"

so to answer part (a) for instance, we would say:

"30% of 45 is ..." which translates to " $\frac {30}{100} \times 45 = \cdots$"

so now you can find that. what do you get for the answer? can you do the second one?

(30/100) x 45

(20/100) x 80

You will probably need a calculator to do the arithmetic.

a) $
= 0.3 \times 45
= 3 \times 4.5
= 9 + 4.5
= 13.5
$

b) Since 20% = 0.2 x100
20% is a fifth of full value.

Thus

$80/5 = 16$
