A consignment of steel weighing 5 tonnes is delivered to an engineering factory. Using 1kg = 2.205 lb, work out the weight of steel, in tons, delivered to the factory.

but i don't seem to get this, heres my working

convert 5 tonnes into kilograms. 5 x 1000 = 5000kg , 5000kg x 2.205 =11025

11025/1000 = 11.025 tons?

Hello Tweety,

In your last step there, divide the number of pounds by the number of pounds in a "long ton" (2240 lbs). See: Long ton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This will give you $\frac{11025}{2240}=4.921875$ long tons.

Your problem wasn't very clear about which unit of measure to use.
