If i'm collecting like terms from this:

Could you please try and rewrite this problem using LaTeX?

EDIT: Nevermind, you wrote it more legibly.

$\frac{1}{3} \left( 12 - 2p - p \right)$

$\frac{1}{3}$ seems to be the only common factor there.

And then you could simplify that if you like. This problem can be simplified to $4 - p$ .

To $4 - p$ ?

$\frac{12-2p}{3} - \frac{p}{3} \rightarrow \frac{12 - 2p - p}{3} \rightarrow \frac{12 - 3p}{3} \rightarrow \frac{4 - p}{1}$
