Thread: [SOLVED] 2 problems inside...come help me out...

got some math h/w due soon...thought i would get it done now...but i have no idea how the hell the answer the last 2 questions:

1 - Show how to obtain the product of 38 and 24 using an alternate algorithm (other than the traditional method).


2 - Choose addition, subtraction, or division and an alternate algorithm or your choice, make up a word problem and show how to solve it.

I suppose you could do something like:

38*24 = (40 - 2)*(30 - 6) = 40*30 - 40*6 - 2*30 + 2*6 = 1200 - 240 - 60 + 12 = 1200 - 300 + 12 = 900 + 12 = 912

But this isn't really an "alternate algorithm" in my opinion. (Though it isn't exactly a traditional method, either.) It would help perhaps if you told us a little about what you were discussing in class.
