You got a little misconstrued.

$\displaystyle \frac{log(x+2)}{log(2)}=\frac{log(8)}{log(2)}-\frac{log(x)}{log(2)}$

$\displaystyle log(x+2)+log(x)=log(8)$

$\displaystyle log(x(x+2))=log(8)$

$\displaystyle x^{2}+2x-8=0$
