1. ## math problems

6. Matlyn was so excited about her new Good luck ladybug umbrella that she completely forgot it was bad luck to open the umbrella inside the house. She sprung it open to show her friend Izzy that not only did her umbrella have a lucky ladybug on each of the 8 equally sized panels, it also had color-symmetry across the vertical, dark black line when looking at the top. If we know the color of two panels, a yellow beside a blue, and each panel of the umbrella is either yellow or blue, how many way can the remaining panels be colored.

8.martin was trying to avoid the black cat he saw walking up ahead, but he was distracted by also trying to avoid stepping on any cracks in the sidewalk. As a result, martin and the black cat actually walked rite into each other! The cathad been 15 feet from the point of collision when Martin was 20 feet from it. Before the collision the cat had been walking due east at a constant rate of 9mph. If Martin had been walking due north at a constant rate, how fast was Martin walking, in mph, to the collision?

9.Kendra had a square mirror measuring 9 inches on each side. Unfortunately, she dropped the mirror, and it broke into three pieces, each of equal area. What is the length of the perimeter, in inches, of the four sided piece? Exspress ur answer as a decimal to the nearest tenth.

10. The cougars had only three hits in 24 at-bats during the first eight innings of the game. For the ninth inning, Aaron and his dad put on their rally caps in hopes that the Cougars would come back from a two-run deficit. (Rally caps are baseball caps worn in a silly way, perhaps inside out, to bring good luck to a team .) If the Cougars first six at-bats in the ninth inning each resulted in hits, and then ended the game, what percent of the Cougars' at-bats during the entire game resulted in hits?

2. Can I get some1 to check my math on these 4 word problems?? I think I figured out 3 of the 4.

6. 6! = 720

8. Still havent figured this 1 out yet.

9. 9" x 9" = 81" Total Area
81" / 3 = 27" Area Divided By 3

3" x 9" = 27" Area

Perimeter: 2(3) + 2(9) ]= 24"

10. 9 / 30 = 30%

This question could be considered unclear.
If I understand it correctly since it is symmetrical (about some vague line) I would assume that the two sides opposite the yellow next to blue would also have to be a yellow next to blue.
so that leaves 4 more sides, 2 pairs of 2.
if one (pair) is Blue yellow then the other must be blue yellow.
if one is yellow blue then the other must be yellow blue.
if one is yellow yellow ==> yellow yellow
blue blue ====> blue blue

my answer would be 4 but this is arguable (based on the lack of a figure or where this line is)

hope it's not too late.

4. wedge,

Imagain the picture as a pie cut into 8 egual slices. Now 2 of the slices are painted 1 blue, and 1 yellow, now its not saying the colors have to be blue then yellow then blue etc... its states it has color-symmetry across the vertical.

This is not correct.

Let the hypotenuse of each right-triangle be h and the other side be x. Then:

$27 = \frac{1}{2} (9)(x) \Rightarrow x = 6$.

Now get the length of the hypotenuse.

Then the perimeter of the 'kite' is 2h + 6 inches.
