This is very short and simple.

2x = 12 Given

x= 6 Division property of equality

Or you could do it this way:

$2x=12$ Given

$\frac{1}{2}(2)x=\frac{1}{2}(12)$ Multiplication property of equality

$1x=6 \ \$ Multiplicative Inverse and multiplication

$x=6 \ \$Multiplicative Identity

3. ## ok.......

A very nice step by step reply.
