This was the time taken when the first snail came on the path until the last left the path. The snails travelled nose to tail in asingle file and the path could only accomodate 8 snails at any one time. the snails travelled at the same speed and each snail was on the path for the same time. For how long was each snail on the path.

the "train" of snails traveled a length of 18s in 50 min, or

$\frac{18s}{50} = \frac{9s}{25}$ units/min ... so the speed of a single snail is $\frac{9s}{25}$ units per min.

the path is 8s units wide ... distance/speed = time ...

$\frac{8s}{\frac{9s}{25}} = \frac{200}{9} \approx 22.2$ min
