Math Help - Confused

    Confused

    i just need someone to show me maybe one example of how to solve a problem like

    x+5/x+3=8

    or

    1+1/x=6/x^2

    Can anyone help please?

    1) x\ne 0 so the equation is x+\frac 5x +3=8\leftrightarrow x^2+5+3x=8x\leftrightarrow x^2-5x+5=0\rightarrow x_{1,2}=\frac {-(-5)\pm\sqrt{5^2-4\cdot 1\cdot 5}}{2\cdot 1}=\frac {5\pm\sqrt{25-20}}{2}=\frac {5\pm\sqrt{5}}2
    2) x\ne 0 so the equation is 1+\frac 1x=\frac 6{x^2}\leftrightarrow x^2+x=6\leftrightarrow x^2+x-6=0\leftrightarrow (x+3)(x-2)=0\rightarrow x=-3\,\text{or}\,2

    im sorry i posted the problem incorrectly

    its

    (x+5)/(x+3)=8

    x plus 5 over x plus 3 equals 8, solve for x

    (x + 5) / (x + 3) = 8 {multiply both sides by (x + 3)}
    x + 5 = 8x + 24 {Rearrange}
    7x = -19
    x = -19/7 as a fraction

    Or at least to my knowledge. It works anyway
