Thread: Need help With this word Problem

A says to B "I am twice as old as u were when i was as old as u are". The sum of their present ages is 63.Find their ages.

Plz Try to solve this Quickly because i need it by today.. :s and also when u give answer, give it with explanation plz. .

Let x be the present age of A and y be the present age of B.

Solve the following equations simultaneously:

x + y = 63 .... (1)

x - z = y .... (2)

x = 2 (y - z) .... (3)

I'll let you figure out what z represents.
