    Homework Help 3

    1.The stem and leaf plot shows the score of 20 students. What percent of the students scored less then 75%? (the value 6|2 represents 62%)

    2. If the exspression 3 to the first power X nine to the second power X 27 to the 3rd power X 81 to the 4 power = 3 to the M power. what is the value of M?

    well im multiplied all the numbers and i got 274015150880409. i just don't know how to finish it.

    3.A group of naturalists catch, tag and release 121 trout into a lake. The next day they catch 48 trout, of which 22 have been tagged. Using this ratio, how many trout could be estimated to eb in the lake?

    so wouldnt it be like since it says estimated be like 20 out of 50 fish are tagged. and so forth xD idk

    2. 3^1 \times 9^2 \times 27^3 \times 81^4 = 3^M

    3^1 \times (3^2)^2 \times (3^3)^3 \times (3^4)^4 = 3^M

    3^1 \times 3^4 \times 3^9 \times 3^{16} = 3^M

    3^{30} = 3^M

    M = 30

    So the percentage is \frac{6}{20}\times 100\% = 30\%

    3. Of the 48 trout caught, 22 were tagged. So 26 were not tagged.

    Thus the ratio of tagged:not tagged = 22:26.

    121 trout have been tagged. So to find the ratio 121:x, we divide both sides by 22 then multiply by 121.

    i.e. 22:26 = 22\times\frac{121}{22}:26\times\frac{121}{22} = 121:143

    So the ratio of tagged:not tagged = 121:143, and thus there are 264 trout in the lake.
