Let $\displaystyle \frac{1}{2}x$ = length of 1st stick.
Let $\displaystyle \frac{1}{2}x-6$ = length of 3rd stick.
Let 44 = total length.
Now we have $\displaystyle x+\frac{1}{2}x+\frac{1}{2}x-6=44$
