# Math Help - Averaging Question

1. ## Averaging Question

I need some help on an issue i cant realy understand:

Example:

I have to objects (A & B). I have the speed of both of them

A: 1m / 1h = 1 m/h
B: 1m /3h = 0,33 m/h

Now if i want to find the average speed of both objects im getting different results:
1. 2m / 4h = 0.5 m/h
2. (1+0.33)/2 = 0.665 m/h

could some one please explain me why i get the difference and which will be the correct answer

Thanks in advance

I don't really understand where you got #1 from.

The average should be $\frac{1+\frac{1}{3}}{2}=.667$ m/h.

Its is the sum of the distance over the sum of the time...
alltogether we have 2m for 4 hours...which gives me 0.5 m/h
