Re-write the equation:

$\displaystyle 32^x=2~\implies~(2^5)^x=2^1$

Now solve for x.

Since the bases of the 2 expressions are equal the exponents must be equal too:

$\displaystyle 32^x=2~\implies~(2^5)^x=2^1~\implies~2^{5x} = 2^1~\implies~ 5x=1~\implies~x=\dfrac15$

5. You then equate the indices,
so 5x=1
so x=1/5
