multiply by the conjugate of the denominator over itself. that is, to get $\frac {a + ib}{c + id}$ in standard form, multiply by $\frac {c - id}{c - id}$ and simplify

#3: find the absolute value of (2-3i)
$|a + ib| = \sqrt{a^2 + b^2}$
