a student has an 87 as a current math grade. this total comes from quizzes.
this total is 75% of the students final grade. the final exam is 25% of his grade. what score must the student get on his final exam to achieve at least a C 70-79% for the final grade?

Final grade = (current grade * % current grade is of final grade) + (final exam grade * % final exam is of final grade)

The lowest final grade a person can have and still have a C is 70%, so

.7 = (87 * .75) + (x * .25)

.7 = .6525 + .25x

.0475 = .25x

x = .19

student must get at least a 19% on the final in order to get a C.
