need help (x - 1)^3 - (x - 1)^2 = 0 Its really frustrating, please help.

A common factor is $\displaystyle (x-1)^2$. You can therefore rewrite the equations as: $\displaystyle (x-1)^2(x-1+1)=(x-1)^2x=0$ You should see that the solution has 2 distinct roots, with one repeated.
it should be $\displaystyle (x-1)^3-(x-1)^2 = (x-1)^2(x-1-1) = (x-1)^2(x-2) = 0 $ but yes there is a repeated root
