A common factor is $(x-1)^2$. You can therefore rewrite the equations as:

$(x-1)^2(x-1+1)=(x-1)^2x=0$

You should see that the solution has 2 distinct roots, with one repeated.

it should be $(x-1)^3-(x-1)^2 = (x-1)^2(x-1-1) = (x-1)^2(x-2) = 0$

but yes there is a repeated root
