Post Alg 2 -- help me please!

The following cost equations are given for electric and solar heating back in 1990:
    electric- C= 5000 + 1000n
    gas - C= 12,000 +700n

I turned the 2 eqautions into y=mx+b form and then graphed them. Later it asked me to label the point on the graph where the electric and gas heating costs are equal ( 14, 2400 )

Then it asked me to use the equations to find a better, more accurate solution. What does this mean? What equation? How do I solve this? HELPPP

It would seem that the question is asking you to solve the equations algebraically, rather than by using the graph to find where the equations meet.

To solve algebraically, you just need to use the forms that you already have: y=mx+b.

The simple way is to take the RHS of both equations equal each other to find x. Then sub this x value into one of the original equations to find y. The results should be similar to those that you found on the graph.
