(A) A shipment of 320 cell phones and radar detectors was destroyed due to a truck accident. on the insurance claim, the shipper stated that each phone was worth $110, each detector was worth$160, and their total value was $40700. how many of each were in the shipment? (1)$110 + $160 =$40700<--------is the first equation right??
(2) ??????????????????????

was wondering is there a way to master these word problem?
let the number of phones be $x$ and the number of decters $y$
then
$x + y =320$
$110x+160y =40700$

can you get it from there??
if not let me know..

2. okay i found it. thanks alot

3. ## another word problem

Solve the given problems by determinant. Set up appropriate systems of equations. all numbers are accurate to at least two significant digits

A person spent 1.10h in a car going to an airport, 1.95h flying in a jet, and 0.520h in a taxi to reach the final destination. the jet's speed averaged 12.0 times that of the car, which averaged 15.0 km/h more than the taxi. what was the average speed of each if the trip covered 1140km?
