Thread: Im quite lost...

Hello everyone, Im pretty lost on this word problem. I know the answer but I have no clue on how to achieve this answer. So it goes like this:

This year, 75% of the graduating class of Harriet Tubman High School had taken at least 8 math courses. Of the remaining class members, 60% had taken 6 or 7 math courses. What percent of the graduating class had taken fewer than 6 math courses?

I believe the answer is 10% but I would really like to know how to solve this!

The remaining class members, who took less than 8 math courses, is 25%.

60% of that 25% had taken 6 or 7 math courses.

Find 60% of 25%:

0.6 x 0.25 = 0.15

So 15% had taken 6 or 7 math courses, that leaves 10% that had taken fewer than 6.
