Thread: Linear Equations

This is a stupid ticket problem that our teacher didn't explain well and my brother isn't around to help me with it.
Rita, Mario, Jeremiah, and Stephen were selling tickets for the air show last week. Rita is the treasurer and needs to figure out how many adult or student tickets were sold. Mario only remembers that he turned in $478. How many adult and student tickets were sold with adult tickets being at $19 and student tickets being at $16?

A=$19
S=$16

19A+16S=478

Normally with these types of questions it explains how many tickets were sold. However, since this one doesn't it must be solved by trial and error:

A=10
S=18

So 10 adult tickets and 18 student student tickets were sold.
