Thread: Major Help on Word Problem!!!!

Granny needs 3 gallons of 15% vinegar for
her pickles. Bud went to the store and bought
2 gallons of 50% vinegar. Granny asks:
How much pure spring water must I mix with
some of that 50% stuff to get my canner
filled with 3 gallons of 15% solution?

any help would be greatly appreciated...so much...

Let the number of gallons of water used be , then gallons of 50% solution is used.

Concentation of gallons of mixture is the pure vinegar content of gallons of 50% solution divided by gallons, and the pure vinegar content of gallons of 50% mixture is , so as the new solution is to be 15%:
