    Thumbs down Isolating Variables - urgent (due tomorrow)

    I am not the best math student and I need help in knowing what to do in this equation.

    y 2x
    _ + _ = 11
    3 5

    Sorry if that wasn't in the best format.

    I need to figure out how to isolate the y variable.

    Help?

    I'm imagining you mean (y/3) + (2x/5) = 11
    in this case
    multiply everything by 3
    then move all the terms except Y to the other side (by subtracting them from both sides)
    then Y is on it's own

    Is the question to isolate y in the equation \frac{y}{3} + \frac{2x}{5} = 11?

    If so, first subtract 2x/5 from both sides:

    \frac{y}{3} = 11 - \frac{2x}{5}

    Then multiply both sides of the equation by 3:

    y = 33 - \frac{6x}{5}
