Question is:

Brine is a solution of salt and water. If a tub contains 50 lbs of a 5% solution of brine, how much water must evaporate to change it to an 8% solution?

Thank you in advance for your help in showing me step by step.

2. If the water is a 5% solution by weight, then you have 2.5 lbs of salt in the solution. So in order for 2.5 lbs to be 8% instead of 5%, you need the solution to be 92% water. Regardless of what the actual numbers are, this puts the water/salt ratio at 92/8, or 23/2. So how many pounds of water are there?

3. But I do not understand how to write this in an algebra formula. PLEASE HELP. I AM BEGGING FOR HELP. I am pulling my hair out for 2 hours now, about to cry.

4. I have now been to 4 online forums and an online tutorial live session and nobody knows how to do this problem. I guess I am not as dumb as I thought I was, even though I still don't have the answer.
