Thread: Solve quadratic equation for x

Hi

I am trying to solve the following equation for x:

8.64 = -0.0033x2 + 0.2496x + 4.2041

I'm not exactly sure how to proceed with this. Would I first subtract 8.64 from both sides so that one side can be set to 0?

Yes.

Then you might consider multiplying both sides by -10000 to get rid of the decimals.

Then use the quadratic formula. I don't think there's any short cut for the tedious calculations ahead of you. Unless you use technology to solve it for you.
