    arithmetic help

    Amy's age is 5years less than her brother's age. If three times her brother's age is increased by amy's age, the result is 51.Find their ages.

    Good old word problems.

    Let x = Amy's bro's age
    Let x-5 = Amy's age (5 yrs less than her bro)
    Let 3x = 3 times her bro's age
    Let 51 = total ages

    3x + (x-5)=51

    Can you finish?
