3(12 - x) - 2 < 28
The answer i got was x < 30 over 36...Is this correct?
You have to carefully move things from one side to the other, you start with:
$\displaystyle 3(12 - x) - 2 \leq 28$
1. Add 2 to both sides:
$\displaystyle 3(12 - x) \leq 30$
2. Divide both sides by 3:
$\displaystyle 12 - x \leq 10$
3. Subtract 12 from both sides:
$\displaystyle -x \leq -2$
Now, here's the hard part:
4. Divide both sides by -1 and FLIP the less than or equal symbol to be greater than or equal to. Whenever you divide or multiply by a negative number, you flip the inequality:
$\displaystyle x \geq 2$
And that's your answer.
