    note: in future, please use grouping symbols for the sake of clarity.
    like so ...

    y = (2x + 1)/(x + 1)

    y(x + 1) = 2x + 1

    yx + y = 2x + 1

    yx - 2x = 1 - y

    x(y - 2) = 1 - y

    x = (1 - y)/(y - 2)
