if y = x^(-1/3) + 1 , what is the inverse function? Y^3 = x+1 (?) and the inverse function is f^-1(x) = x^3 - 1 (?) Thank you.

The graph of my function looks like you've described. Apart from the undefined part at x=-1. Do the graphs look like they might reflect through y=-x?
Try $\displaystyle y = (x-1)^{-3}$.
