The mean [average] of the 5 numbers is 52

Thus, $\displaystyle \frac{57+22+35+x+62}{5}=52$

Now solve for x.

Does this makes sense?

To solve for x: $\displaystyle \frac{57+22+35+x+62}{5}=52$

Multiply both sides by 5:

$\displaystyle 57+22+35+x+62=260$

Then isolate x:

Note that $\displaystyle 57+22+35+62=176$

Thus, $\displaystyle x+176=260 \implies \color{red}\boxed{x=84}$

Does this make sense now?
