* x refers to the letter, not the multiplication sign) With this equation: vx - 2v = x + 2 How do you make "x" the subject of the formula? thanks

$\displaystyle vx - 2v = x + 2$ $\displaystyle vx - x = 2v + 2$ $\displaystyle x = \frac{2v + 2}{v - 1}$
why can't you do VX-2V-2=X ?
Chuck wants to solve the equation in terms of x so we need x = something. and 'something' can not have x in it.
