Nearest Quarter Hour
I'm supposed to calculate hours worked on a timecard and round down to the nearest quarter hour, as in "7 1/4" or "7 1/2". I'm having trouble with the rounding, and where I'm supposed to round down or up with this.
One of the questions is for Friday: In- 7:05: Out- 11:10: In- 11:40: Out-2:50.
What were the total hours?
From 7:05 to 11:10 is 4:05, and from 11:40 to 2:50 is 3:10, add these together and you get 7:15. So you should put 7 1/4. It seems that your instructions are to always round down, never up, so if you had worked one minute less your time would add to only 7:14, and you would have had to round down to 7.
