    arithmatic problem

    The distance between two places is 33/4 km.If two person starts towards opposite direction they will meet each other after 1 hr but if they go towards the same direction they require 11 hr to meet each other .Find the velocities of the two person?

    Let v_1, v_2 denote the velocities of the 2 persons.

    Then you know:

    \frac{8.25}{v_1+v_2} = 1

    11 \cdot v_1-11 \cdot v_2=8.25~\implies~v_1=v_2+\frac34

    Sub in the term of v_1 into the first equation and solve for v_2.

    I've got:

    v_1 = 4.5\ \frac{km}{h}~,~ v_2 = 3.75\ \frac{km}{h}
