1. ## Making Equations

I am having difficulty with problems of this type:

Write and solve an equation to find each amount of money:

1.) An amount of money is increased by $6 is$13.

2.)Two dollars less than an amount of money is $17. 3.)One third an amount of money is$8.

Thanks

2. 1.) An amount of money is increased by $6 is$13.
x + 6 = 13
x = 7

2.)Two dollars less than an amount of money is $17. x - 2 = 17 x = 19 3.)One third an amount of money is$8.

x/3 = 8
x = 24

3. ## Re: Making Equations

1. An amount of money = $'x'$

increased by= '+'

Equation is $\Rightarrow x + 6 = 13\;\implies x=7$

2. less than= '-'

an amount = $'x'$

equation is $x-2= 17\;\implies x=-15$

3. One third an amount = $\dfrac{x}{3}$

equation is = $\dfrac{x}{3}=8\;\implies x =24$

No, $x= 17+ 2= 19$.

equation is = $\dfrac{x}{3}=8\;\implies x =24$
