I think this is what you want to simplify...
$\displaystyle \frac{12x}{5xy^4}-\frac{9y^2}{15x^3y^2}$
so we find the LCD is $\displaystyle 15x^3y^4$
so we build each of the fractions. So we multiply the first one by $\displaystyle 3x^2$ and the second by $\displaystyle y^2 $ to get
$\displaystyle \frac{12x}{5xy^4}\frac{3x^2}{3x^2}-\frac{9y^2}{15x^3y^2}\frac{y^2}{y^2}=\frac{36x^3-9y^4}{15x^3y^4}=\frac{9(4x^3-y^4)}{12x^3y^2}=\frac{3(4x^3-y^4)}{4x^3y^2}$
