$m^4 - 4m^3 + 3m^2 + 2m -12 = (m^2 - 2m - 4)(m^2 - 2m + 3)$.

$m^4 + 2m^2 + 9 = (m^2 - 2m + 3)(m^2 + 2m + 3)$.

Therefore ......

3. thank you but can you explain how to factorise expressions like these?

Therefore ......
Neither have real linear factors, so the obvious thing to do is look for irreducible quadratic factors ......
