    word problem equation

    Ben and Vince are playing a card game involving green and yellow cards. They get 3 points every time they draw a green card, and 5 points for yellow. The winner is the first to get to 50 points.
    Ben has 41 points and nine cards. How many cards does he have of each color?

    Help please!

    Let G be the number of green cards and Y be the number of Yellow cards

    So we know

    G+Y=9 and 41=3G+5Y

    isolating G in the first gives G=9-Y

    41=3(9-Y)+5Y

    41=27-3Y+5Y

    14=2Y

    7=Y so G=2

    So Ben has 7 yellow cards and 2 Green cards.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck.
