# Math Help - solve equation

1. ## solve equation

I need help/answers for these questions it will be a huge faveur../

1-Simplify:

a: 3x(5x-2) -x (x(squared)-7) -x
b: 5w-3(squared)-2+2w
c: 8(x+3)-2(x-1)

2-Solve:

a: 8x-7=5(x+4)
b: 8-2x=5
c: 3x-5=7
d: 7(3-p)=9-4p

3-First three numbers in a sequence are 1, 2 and 4 exlapin why the fourth term would be 7 or 8..

4-Factorise the expiression

3x(squared)-15x

5-Work out and leave answers as fraction

2/3+3/5+7/4
2 6/7 + 1 3/4
2 1/2 + 1 3/4

6-Square root of 1.44

7- 1.3 squared=

Problem 1
(a)
$3x(5x -2) - x(x^2 - 7) - x =$
$15x^2 - 6x - x^3 + 7x - x =$
$15x^2 - x^3 = x^2(15 - x)$

(b)
$(5w - 3)^2 - 2 + 2w =$
$25w^2 - 30w + 9 - 2 + 2w =$
$25w^2 - 28w + 7$

(c)
$8(x + 3) - 2(x - 1) =$
$8x + 24 - 2x + 2 =$
$6x + 22$

These are all of the same type.
$8x - 7 =5(x + 4)$

$8x - 7 = 5 \cdot x + 5 \cdot 4$

$8x - 7 = 5x + 20$

$8x - 7 - 5x = 5x + 20 - 5x$

$3x - 7 = 20$

$3x - 7 + 7 = 20 + 7$

$3x = 27$

$\frac{3x}{3} = \frac{27}{3}$

$x = 9$

The other three use the same basic pattern of solution. Try them again, step by step, using the above solution as a model. If you are still stuck on any of them, just let us know.

Look for what is common to both terms.
3 divides 15 evenly
x divides x^2 evenly

So
$3x^2 - 15x$

$= 3x \cdot x - 3x \cdot 5$

$3x(x - 5)$
