    First change the mixed number 1\frac{1}{3} to an improper fraction, 1\frac{1}{3}=\frac{4}{3} by multiplying the whole number 1 to the denominator and adding it to the numerator.

    Now we have 8-\frac{4}{3} In order to get a common denominator on the eight we have to multiply the top and the bottom by 3, giving us,

    \frac{24}{3}-\frac{4}{3}=\frac{20}{3}=6\frac{2}{3}
