Thread: unit conversion

Problem A container holds 2 quarts and 4 fluid ounces. The container is now filled with 6 fluid ounces of liquid. How much liquid must be added to the countainer to make it full?

John solved tthis problem as follows:

2 q 4 fl oz
_ 6 fl oz
___________________
1 q 8 fl oz

So John gave 1 quart and 8 fluid onces as the answer. Is john right? If not, explain what is wrong with his method, and show how to modify his method of regrouping to make it correct ( do not start from scratch)

1 quart = 32 fluid ounces

2 quarts 4 oz = 1 quart 36 oz -6 oz = 1 quart 30 oz needed to fill the container.
