Please answer or give advice on the following...
Solve the non-linear system of equations for real solutions
1. x^2 + 3y^2 = 3
x+y = 8
2. y = 4x^2 +5
x+y = -8
3. y = x^2 + 2
y = -x^2 + 4
Please! Thank you so much!
For the first two use the second (linear) equation to solve for, say, y in terms of x. Then plug that into the non-linear equation and solve for x.
In the case of the last one the system is already in a nice form for you. The two y's are equal to each other, so
$\displaystyle x^2 + 2 = -x^2 + 4$
Solve for x.
