    Exclamation fraction problem

    What fraction lies half way between 1/2 and 3/4?

    Hello,

    \frac 34 - \frac 12=\frac 14

    Hence, the distance from \frac 12 to \frac 34 is \frac 14.
    Half the way will be \frac 12 \cdot \frac 14=\frac 18

    So half way will be at \frac 12+\frac 18=\frac 34-\frac 18=\dots

    This midpoint between two points is \frac{a+b}{2}

    so we get

    \frac{\frac{3}{4}+\frac{1}{2}}{2}=\frac{\frac{5}{4  }}{2}=\frac{5}{8}
